Malay Music Award Moves To Jakarta
Singapore artists will no longer have their own "Best Of" category in the regional Malay music award ceremony Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM).
Three Singapore-centric awards - Best Song (Singapore), Best Singapore Act and Best Album - which are decided by a panel of industry experts, have been dropped from the annual celebration of Malay music from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Ms Zakiah Halim, vice-president of Malay, Indian and community programming with Mediacorp Radio which organises the nine-year-old event, says the omission will make the awards a truly regional industry event.
"I also hope that in the future, Malay music from Singapore can have its own awards ceremony. It's something to look forward to," she adds.
However, categories for Most Popular Singapore Artiste and Most Popular Song (Singapore), which are decided by fan votes via SMS, will remain in the awards.
Another change for the show, which has been held in Singapore and Malaysia, is a move to Jakarta. It will be held at the Jakarta Convention Centre on July 18 and the show will be broadcast live on Suria channel at 9pm.
Home-grown artists in the running for APM awards include Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah.
He is nominated in the Best Male Artiste category and Best Collaboration In A Song category for his duet with fellow Singapore Idol Hady Mirza, who was crowned Asian Idol in 2007.
Local newcomer Nana is in the running for the New Female Artiste award.
