Taufik, Hady Head Singaporean Charge At Anugerah Awards
SINGAPORE singer Taufik Batisah will be up for two awards at the coming Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) 2009 awards, including best male artiste and best song collaboration (for Kepadanya, with fellow Singaporean Hady Mirza).
The APM is the only regional Malay music awards and, in a first, will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on July 18. Since its inception in 2001, it has been held in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Local female singer Nana, who usually sings rock tunes with her band The Vibes, is up for Best Vocal Performance (New Female Artiste). “I was shocked by the nomination,” the 29-year-old singer told Today.
Her nod is for the ballad, Lafaz, which was first runner-up at last year’s Projek Rentak songwriting contest, organised by MediaCorp Radio’s Ria 89.7FM and Warna 94.2FM, co-organisers of APM.
“I’ve been performing for 13 years ... to have one single to reach these heights is worth all those years,” she said.
More than 18 awards will be given out, including Best Male and Female Artistes, Best Song and Best Album. Twelve local artistes are vying for Most Popular Singapore Artiste, and 12 tunes are up for Most Popular Song (Singapore). Four homegrown singers - Taufik, Hady, Aliff Aziz and Ahlifiqir - are vying for Most Popular Regional Artiste.
Winners will be decided by judges from the regional music and broadcasting industry, while the “Most Popular” categories are determined by ringtone downloads and SMS voting in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. MAYO MARTIN
